Title:ย Hindrances to Walking in Love Part 3

that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye,ย being rooted and grounded in love,ย may be able to comprehend with all saintsย what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;ย and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17-19 (KJV)
God is love, this we know. What we need to add to this knowledge is the fact that God created us to be creatures of love, exhibiting His nature. The statement โlet us make man in our own image, after our likeness (Gen. 1:26)โ proves this, for His Image and likeness is essentially love (1John 4:8). In simple terms, we become like God when we walk in love. In the past week, I have given two hindrances to walking in love; I mentioned fear and pride as hindrances to walking in love. Today, I will speak on “lack of understanding of the finished work of Christ” as a hindrance to walking in love.
In the bible, the life of a man is symbolically represented by a tree and a house (Jeremiah 24:6). Like trees, we grow up, and like houses, we are built up. Man as a house was revealed from the progression of the places where God has dwelt on the earth; from physical structures and buildings in the Old Testament to human vessels in the New Testament. The first structures were altars. An Altar was recognized as a place of Godโs presence; His house (Gen. 28: 16 โ 18). Again, He instructed Moses to build a tabernacle in the wilderness, which became a symbol of Godโs presence with Israel (Exodus 40: 33,34). Later on, He permitted Solomon to build Him a temple, which was a building that housed the presence of God (2Chro. 7:1). At the completion of His work, Man was declared to be a temple (a building) where Gods presence dwells (1 Cor. 6:19). The progression of things was to make us see the change of reasoning from the natural perspective to the spiritual perspective. Spiritual truth is spiritually discerned or understood (1 Cor. 2:14).
Just as houses, our lives are built up when we obey the commandments of God (Matt. 7:24). Therefore, the word of God is the building block of our lives. As I inferred earlier, just as the transition from physical buildings to spiritual buildings from the Old Testament to the New Testament, the commandments of God must now be interpreted from the spiritual perspective and not from the natural perspective. The better your understanding of His commandments, the better your obedience to them. Invariably, the better your love walk.
Our scriptural verse of today states “..may be ableย to comprehendย with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; andย to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge”. From the verse, we see that love needs to be comprehended, and love has dimensions (height, breadth, depth, and height). We comprehend (receive) His commands (which to love) when we are able to understand them. Now you may ask, how did the change of covenants affect the instruction to love? From the finished work of Christ, we are not to see anyone in the flesh; we should no longer relate with the other person based on their nationality, ethnic group, social status etc. This is because we are all putting on Christ (Gal. 3:27); we all are now part of the Kingdom of light (God has delivered us from our nations and tribes). Making loving others easier.
Again, in the Old Testament, humans were considered enemies, but in the New Testament, the devil is the enemy. With this said, we are not to kill people by our prayers because we see them as enemies, but we are to save them by praying for them because we know that the devil is the one instigating their ill actions towards us.
When our love exceeds the physical and circumstantial limits, then we are loving as God, manifesting ourselves as His children; as love creatures. When we do this, God will expand our vessels (capacity) to be able to house His fullness (Eph. 3: 14-19).
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s also ask Him to help us to love like Him by expanding our understanding to be able to grasp His commandment of Love.
God bless you all.
