Title: His Ways Are Higher

โ€œFor My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,โ€ says the Lord. โ€œFor as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

(Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV)

When King Herod heard about the birth of Jesus Christ, he was deeply troubled. He consulted his priests about where the Messiah was to be born, and they confirmed it was in Bethlehem, according to prophecy. Herod then plotted to kill the child. But in the middle of the night, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and instructed him to flee with Mary and Jesus to Egypt (Matt 2).

Every time I read this passage, I ask myself: Why did the Lord allow them to flee to Egypt? Couldnโ€™t the all-powerful God simply destroy Herod to protect His Son? Why should Mary and Joseph go through such difficultyโ€”escaping at night, living as foreigners, and raising the Son of God in a distant land?

The answer is this: God was fulfilling a higher plan. It had been prophesied that the Messiah would be called out of Egypt (Hos 11:1). This was far beyond Mary and Josephโ€™s understanding at the time.

Often when we pray, we expect answers immediatelyโ€”or in our own timing and preferred way. Sometimes that happens, but not always. Why? Because God’s thoughts and plans for our lives are far greater than what we can imagine (Isa 55:8, Jer 29:11). As human beings, we tend to desire straight paths and predictable progress. But God may lead us through winding roads to reach the same destinationโ€”just with greater purpose and impact.

When I look at my own life, I see clearly that where I live, the school I attended, and even the job I have were not my original choices. I faced many rejectionsโ€”some of which brought me to tears. But now I realise God was redirecting me for a greater purpose in a different country. Through all of it, Iโ€™ve learned to fully trust Him, the captain of my life.

Beloved in the Lord, Godโ€™s thoughts and ways are far above our own. Let us be patient, even when we donโ€™t understand what Heโ€™s doing. Letโ€™s continue to trust Him to guide our lives in line with His higher purposeโ€”because His plans are always greater.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s pray that all believers will have the patience and trust to allow God to fulfil His greater purpose in their lives.

God bless you all.
