Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name Philippians 2:9 NIV

A creature of God called Lucifer expressed a desire to ascend above the stars (angels) of God, he wanted to sit on the mount of God. When we carefully analyse the declaration of intent by Lucifer as written in Isaiah 14:13 – 14, it will be evident to us that where Jesus Christ was exalted to after he obeyed the Father (See Phil. 2: 5-10), was where Lucifer desired to be.

Though not everyone has seen this, Lucifer’s desire to be like God or to be exalted wasn’t against the will of God, but what made his desire wrong was the way he intended to achieve it: in his declaration of intent “I will” repeated multiple times (five times to be exact), which indicated that he intended to attain that height by his strength and not by depending on God. This same mindset (trying to attain by self-effort and not trusting God), was what he made Adam and Eve to do when he lured Eve to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil so she can be like God (Gen. 3:5).

At the coming of Jesus Christ, He said โ€œI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:16 NIV)”. According to Psalm 82:1, the Father stands in the congregation of the mighty, which is the mount of God, the very location Lucifer desired to be in. So when Jesus Christ said “no one comes to the Father except through me“, He was revealing that He is the means (the way) by which we ascend to the Father. Jesus Christ revealed the way to the Father by His life of complete obedience to Him. For after He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, the Father exalted him to the highest position (See Phil. 2:5-10).

In like manner, when we humble ourselves to obey one another (see Phil. 2:4), God exalts us to the top of the mount (the position of the high influence). Unlike Lucifer who tried to exalt himself by desiring to ascend by his strength, we are exalted by the Father when we obey one another.

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask that He helps each member of the body of Christ to humble ourselves and obey one another.
