Title: How to Develop a Renewed Mind

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

(Romans 12:2 NKJV)

ย

Last week, I began sharing on the topic, โ€œA Renewed Mindโ€. The word of God talks about the three parts of man; Spirit, Soul and Body but our focus is on the mind which I believe is the principal part of the Soul (1 Thess 5:23). According to the Bible, the mind has to be renewed or made new again when we come to Christ. This means that we have to forsake our own Thoughts and Methodology (way of doing things) and submit to the ways of Christ. We learnt that having a renewed mind helps us to discover and experience the good, acceptable, and perfect Will of God for our lives (Rom 12:1-2). Therefore, how then can we develop a renewed Mind?

The first key is recognition. Until we get to that point where we are able to recognize that Godโ€™s ways and Thoughts are superior and better than ours, we canโ€™t develop a renewed mind. Thatโ€™s the reason why Apostle Paul took some time to talk about how great the Mind of God is, before he gave us this instruction. The Bible talks about the depth, riches, wisdom, knowledge, and Judgements of the Mind of God (Rom 11: 33-36). When you recognize that God is smarter than you, it is easier to accept His decisions and follow His ways. However, when you donโ€™t recognize this, you will follow your own ways which will lead to catastrophic results.

The next key required to develop a renewed mind is holiness. Apostle Paul said before you can even renew your mind holiness is required. Why? This is because the opposite of holiness is sin and one thing that sin does is that it has an influence on the way you think. Thatโ€™s why Apostle Paul said we have to present ourselves as a living sacrifice before our minds can be renewed.

Sin has the power to corrupt your mind and take you away from the intentions and the mind of God (Rom 1:28-32). It also leads you to deception and blinds you and makes the mind walk in darkness (Prov 16:25, 1 John 2:11). For example, bitterness can blind you to the extent that you will not see all the good things the person does, but you will always focus on the few areas where the person falls short.

Holiness is therefore very important, and it entails a lot of sacrifice. It is not easy to be holy. People who donโ€™t want to sacrifice cannot be holy. For example, if you have a problem with someone and you are not ready to sacrifice your pride, it canโ€™t be resolved. It always takes sacrifice to walk in holiness.

Beloved in the Lord, God wants us to have a renewed Mind so we can discover and experience the good, acceptable, and perfect Will of God. We can develop a renewed mind when we are able to recognize that Godโ€™s ways and Thoughts are superior and better than ours, and present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask God to help every Believer around the world to have a renewed mind. Letโ€™s ask Him to help us to obey His word and follow His ways and present our bodies as living a sacrifice, holy and acceptable to Him.

God bless you all.
