When Solomon became King, the Lord blessed him with wisdom and riches, and also gave him peace during his entire tenure as King (1 Kgs 3:12-13, 4:24). When he died, his Son Rehoboam by birthright had to succeed him. When he was about to be made King of the whole Israel, an issue was brought to him. He consulted the elders who had been with his father, and they gave him a good and wise counsel. However, he rejected their counsel to listen to that of immature young men he had grown up with. This decision caused the people to rebel against him and the Kingdom split into two (1 Kgs 12).

When we consider the story of Rehoboam, the obvious mistakes we can point out were the fact that he lacked wisdom and was also disobedient. One of the important things that made Solomon experience peace is that he obeyed his father’s instructions to remove all the men who would have been a threat to his Kingship (1 Kgs 2). Rehoboam, on the other hand obviously didn’t. However, the main cause of Rehoboam’s problems was immaturity.

For the past few weeks, we have been talking about our war with the devil and his agents. We have also found out from the word of God that we have a lot of weapons and armor available for this war. The truth is that we may have all these great weapons but if we are spiritually immature, we might not even be aware of all of them (Gal 4:1). Even if we become aware of them, we might not know how and when to effectively use these weapons to defeat the enemy. There is therefore the need for all Believers around the world to grow spiritually.

Beloved in the Lord, we have many mighty weapons for our warfare with the devil and his agents. However, until we become spiritually mature, we might not be aware of all of them and also know when and how to effectively use them. Let’s therefore desire to grow spiritually so we will be able to fight to the very end.

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s pray for the spiritual maturity of Believers all around the world.
