For a righteousย manย may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity. Proverbs 24:16 kjvย

ย

When we fall into sin there is a temptation to continue simply because we have started. The excuse is that since we have already sinned by starting let us then just finish what we started and sin well. Another form of this excuse could appear as โ€œsince I already did it one time why not just do it the second time.โ€ ย

The bible says in 1 John 3:9 NIV โ€œNo one who is born of God will continue to sin, because Godโ€™s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.โ€ The holy spirit in us will convict us of sin when we fall but then since we are still in the world although not of the world (John 15:18-19), the devil still has room to try to lie to us and this is one of those lies we are focusing on today; the โ€œcontinue because you startedโ€. May God help us!ย

There are two judgments we face: the judgement of God and of men. Yes, at times in the sight of men it might make no difference if you commit sin just once or commit it twice or between 100 and 101 time but in the sight of God it does.ย Now what if in committing that sin the next time or while continuing the process, the trumpet of God is sounded (1 Corinthians 15:52). Again, you know very well it will please God if you repent now and return to Him despite that others might judge and condemn you for already starting or committing that sin once. God desires to show mercy more than to punish (Ezekiel 33:11) although there is a limit.ย

Sometimes, the devil shoots arrows of unworthiness at you in your mind about how unrighteous you are because you sinned just a while ago and are now trying to walk with in the light again but resist Him and believe the word of God which is that He washes us clean every time we repent sincerely (1 John 1:9); in fact rather praise God for His mercy and gift of righteousness through Christ Jesus (Romans 3:22-24) putting the devil to shame. ย

Indeed, it matters to God that we repent rather than continue in sin. In fact, a Holy person (a loving person) is not someone who never sins but one who repents quickly and often (Hebrews 4:16); some times just in his thoughts before it ever reaches the stage of an action. ย

Prayer Point: ย

Letโ€™s thank God for the word we have received. Let’s pray for the grace to desire to please God more than men. ย
