And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.ย And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him”. (Luke 8:24-25)

A storm according to common knowledge and in the context of nature, is a vigorous disturbance of the atmosphere associated with great winds and usually with strong rain, thunder lighting or snow.ย  A storm can alsoย  be related to our individual inconveniences in the form of worries, challenges and difficult circumstances in life. As humans, we were created with complex features that often demand huge responsibilities. These responsibilities tend to test our strength/weaknesses though in various capacities depending on how they come.

As we all sail through the life journey, we are bound to face notorious setbacks that might not be necessarily aftermath of our poor planning or irresponsibility; they could sometimes come suddenly to test our faith in God. We as believers should emulate the pattern of our Lord Jesus by exhibiting great sense of composure with absolute calmness that however hard the storm come, we believe that our God is bigger than it. The scripture made us understand that, the storm was so great that the people feared for their life while Jesus was sleeping.

Dearly beloved, we should reckon the fact that storms of life blow in abundant dimensions, it blows towards the believer and the unbeliever alike. However, for the believer, there is every guarantee that Jesus is there to help them calm the storm to a standstill. Whatever challenging circumstance we find ourselves in, we should not stagger or be afraid like the people sailing with Jesus, instead, we should always remember that Jesus is there to lend a helping hand.
