But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 NIVย

For as long as I can remember, the Lord has placed a burden on me to see His Church grow spiritually. The importance of spiritual growth cannot be over-emphasized. The Church cannot come to theโ€ญโ€ญ “... unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God… (Eph. 4:13) ” without growing spiritually as a body. So, one way to hasten His second coming is the acceleration of the growth of the body of Christ.

Some months ago, I and a friend were spending so much time talking. So I asked her, how do we keep on growing spiritually despite the time we spend together? The Lord heard my question, and that night He gave me a vivid dream, where He gave me keys for continuous and accelerated growth. The first key He gave me was “preaching the Gospel”. Ephesians 4:15 states “… speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ”. The Gospel is the Truth. As we proclaim it, we receive grace to grow to the height of the revelation we proclaimed.

The second key He gave me was “enduring trials“. James said in his writing “โ€ญโ€ญโ€ฌโ€ฌConsider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1:2-4 NIV). The reason we should be joyful in the midst of trials is because it matures us. The third key He gave me for accelerating growth is “coming early to meetings”. He made me see that those who come early to meetings (I saw a Christian gathering) are those with a child-like faith; while the others drag their feet and are distracted by other things, those with child-like faith are quick to be there.

In this encounter, the Lord spoke to me through two very tall men. As I communicated with these individual, I discovered that I became taller. Then I understood that as we associate with those who are more spiritually mature than us, grace is given to us to grow. The mighty men of David became mighty because of their association with David while he was in the wilderness (1 Sam. 22:2). Again, I saw in this vision that the individuals that spoke with me were under authority (they were serving under another individual). Then I understood that as we submit to authorities, we receive grace for growth. The man Jesus termed to be with the greatest faith said of himself that he was a man under authority (Matt. 8:9).

Finally, believing or receiving counsel was the last key He gave me. We ascend to the height of the knowledge we attain. If we fail to believe that which is true, the knowledge becomes unprofiting and won’t produce growth in us (Heb. 4:2)

Prayer Pointย

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him for grace to put to work these keys for spiritual growth.
