Title: Knowing the Lord

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:27 KJV)
Earlier this year, I joined a church conference, and from the different speakers that spoke, it was clear to me from their testimonies that they were of two distinct categories, even though they were all anointed. The first category of preachers had heard of God from others and the things that He can do while the second category had first-hand experiences and had seen Him do those things. This reminds me of the children of Israel who kept referring to the testimonies of things the Lord did in the days of their fathers whenever they wanted an intervention from the Lord.
The knowledge of God is experiential in nature, which means that every man will have to experience God to know Him personally. The first point of call is His word and by studying His word, we see and know Him day by day. This is designed to foster interaction and fellowship. For instance, the first time I heard God speak to me was by His word while I was studying the book of Habakkuk and it was so real, as if He was standing next to me. So, studying the word will take us on a journey of intimacy if we commit to it.
Secondly, just like any relationship, we must communicate with the love of our life, and this is where prayer comes in. There are heights and depths of God we will never know if we don’t pray consistently. When I talk about prayer, I am not talking about making requests all the time because that is the attitude of a baby. I am referring to just coming into His presence to fellowship and to know what is in His heart and how you can be a part of it. Most personal instructions I have received were in prayers while waiting on Him.
As much as the general knowledge of God is sweet because it is already broken down by the pastor for the consumption of the congregation in messages/sermons, we must see it as a guide to lead us to deeper fellowship with the intention of knowing Him for ourselves personally. Most people have listened to messages all through their Christian lives with no visible change to their walk with God because they didn’t go further to find Him for themselves. They only fast, pray and study the word during trying times or whenever the church asked everyone to.
In conclusion, God spoke in Jeremiah 29:13 on how to find Him:
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
So, our hearts must be involved in this adventure to find and know Him for ourselves.
Prayer point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Father, please help me to know you more and more.
