What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 1 Cor. 6:19 KJV

The importance of knowledge in the kingdom of God cannot be over emphasized. Eternal life was summed up by Apostle John as “.. that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:5)”, and the scriptures is replete with such statements attributing the connection between the knowledge of God and our inheritance in Christ.

One of the most important knowledge God expects us to have is the knowledge of what He has made us in Christ. Knowing God would lead you to knowing who you are in Christ for we were created in His image. Having the knowledge of who you are in Christ empowers you to walk in accordance to that which has been said of you. For example, when there were rumours of fornication in the Corinthians Church, Apostle Paul responded by saying “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (1 Cor. 6:19 KJV)”. Now, Paul was alluding the truth that knowing that their bodies were the temple of the Holy ghost, they will not act as what was rumoured of them.

In the same manner, when Apostle Paul was trying to embolden Timothy, he reminded him that “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:17)“. His statement to him was not just “be bold“, rather, he reminded him of the nature of spirit that he has. When you know who you are, you will act like it by the help of the Holy Spirit.

My favourite testimony confirming this was about some friends who were recent converts and wanted to stop smoking. They went to their pastor for help and the pastor told them to stop trying to quit smoking. That each time they smoke again, they should say “I am the righteousness of God in Christ”. They obeyed their pastor and repeated the statement each time they smoked. After a while, they lost the appetite for smoking and were delivered from it. Knowing and confessing who they were in Him empowered them to walk in order.

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us know what He has made us in Christ and He should give us the grace to walk in line.
