”Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap’‘ (Galatians 6:7).

The Scripture most times simplifies the things of God by using the cycle and concept of nature. The essence is to transfer understanding to the readers who believe. Coming to that, we see in the life of Jesus while on earth, He gave several parables using our common perception of things naturally occurring around us in order to illustrate the principle of the Heavenly kingdom. Among many of the parables are farming seasons. He used that so that even the least with understanding can be able to relate because nobody needs formal lessons about a farmer and agriculture as we see them virtually every day.

Apostle Paul likewise used a similar approach to remind us about investment. It is crucial we become aware of the fact that God can not be mocked! He is a faithful rewarder of them that diligently seek and do His will (Hebrews 11:6). In our text, we see that in every activity done under the sun, there is accountability. As farmers, we sow daily by virtue of our commitment, dedication, and diligence. Now, there are two types of sowings: to the flesh or to the spirit. Sowing to the flesh most definitely shall lead to reaping corruption (Galatians 6:8), one may ask what does it mean to sow to the flesh? Well, sowing to the flesh means doing it out of godless motive or with ulterior desire. It also means giving our resources to worldly pleasures, using what God blesses us with to promote sinful acts. Sowing to the flesh is all about material gains, it is done with selfish aims or to glorify self. It does not only refer to physical contribution; hating people is already sowing to the flesh, envying and malice are also sowing, lying and defrauding others also are part of it, and wishing people bad things is sowing to the flesh.

Sowing to the Spirit is about implementing the will of God on earth. It involves our wholistic acts of righteousness in accordance with executing Kingdom resources to promote God through Christ Jesus. Sowing to the Spirit is most beneficial because the yield is far more profitable on the day of harvest. One reaps life everlasting in addition to great rewards (Galatians 6:8). Just like sowing to the flesh, it is not only limited to using money to establish righteousness, but also using other means such as intercession by prayer for others, preaching the gospel, caring for the needy, being merciful to people, sharing the word, mourning with the sad, rejoicing with celebrants, abiding in holiness and being good to others etc.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for the word, let’s also ask Him to help us sow to the Spirit in all our endeavors.
