²⁵ Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. ²⁶ Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, Matthew 20:25-26

We are in the world but not of the world. That’s why the Bible says we must renew our minds through the study of the Word (Romans 12:2). In the world, Leaders sometimes do the least but receive the most honor. But in the kingdom of God, leaders should strive to serve instead of seeking to be served.

Our Lord Jesus has set the example Himself, that although He is the King, He is the one who suffered and died for His people and expects us to do the same. One can deduce from the opening verse that the pattern of God’s Kingdom leadership is service. It is probably well known that humility leads to exultation both from God and men. But what might not be popular is that humility is best expressed in service. So if you want to be a leader in the kingdom of God you have to love service. The more you serve the more you are elevated by God and even men.

We must understand that by serving men, we are serving our master Jesus Christ not just men. He is the one who will reward us ultimately regardless of how He chooses to. For He said, “if you love me, feed my sheep.” (Paraphrasing John 21:17). Meaning one way our love for Jesus is demonstrated by our service.

Again it is written:

^“23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, ²⁴ since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever the Lord has called and privileged us to do let’s continue to do it diligently because God is faithful and won’t forget our labor of Love(Hebrews 6:10).

Prayer Point:

Let’s pray that God will help us to always remember that we serve Him by serving others and thus serve Him diligently for He is a faithful rewarder.
