As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.ย  Ephesians 4:1 -3 NIV

Lights have been turned on, with the Church in the spotlight. God expects that through us, the world will know Him. Being called a living epistle, we are the Bible the world reads. Therefore, there is a way we should live, especially we who minister; the called ones.

Shortly before Apostle Paul revealed the different ministry gifts in the body of Christ, he started by admonishing the Church to live a life worthy of her calling (Eph. 4:1). The first mention of an attribute that should be found in us is that we should be “complete humble and gentle” (Eph. 4:2). Being ambassadors of Christ, we should reflect the one we represent. Jesus Christ speaking, said “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart… (Matt. 11:29)”, which is exactly what Apostle Paul was telling the Ephesians Church. Humility is expressed when we yield to obey instructions as revealed in Philippians 2: 5 -11. Being gentle is related to not being easily offended. It also includes being mild and kind.

The one we represent is love, for God is love (1 John 4:8). Therefore, as His ministers, we should reflect the love of Christ by bearing with one another, and ensuring we keep the unity of the body. Being divisive is not an attribute of love and should not be found in us. Again, love forgives, we should too, for we are like Him.

As God’s people, sexual immorality should not be found among us, not even a hint of it as stated in Ephesians 5:3. Therefore, we must learn how to possess our vessels (bodies) in sanctification and honour (1 Thess. 4:4). We have been redeemed from our old ways, so we must take off the old man and put on Christ.

As we live worthy of Him, men will see Him in us and come to Him. This was how the disciples in Athens lived, and the people named them Christians.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us live a life worthy of our calling.
