Title: Living At Peace With Others – Part 2
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:13-14 NIV)
In last week’s Call to Prayer, I began sharing on the Topic titled, “Living At Peace With Others”. We learnt that strife creates a toxic environment for any relationship, be it marital, work, church, family, etc. It is therefore very important for us to strive to live at peace with others. As Christians, the word of God also encourages us to always try our best to live at peace with others if it depends on us (Rom 12:18).
One important key that we learnt is to always bear people by accommodating their weaknesses and shortcomings. I would like to share additional keys which can help us to create a peaceful environment in any relationship.
To live at peace with others, we must decide to forgive when they offend us. It is important to know that Forgiveness is not an emotion; it’s a decision. You can decide to forgive someone and still feel some emotional pain or discomfort. Over time, your emotions will finally line up with your actions.
When our Lord Jesus was crucified on the cross, He asked the father to forgive the people while He was still in pain (Luke 23:34). It is important to know that since most of us have not yet reached perfection, we will by all means offend one another. It is even those who are closer to us who will offend us the most. Knowing this, let’s forgive one another in order to experience peace in our relationships.
Last but not the least, let’s decide to love. Let’s first love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, soul, and strength (Mark 12:30). When we love we will obey His commandments, and this will help us to easily apply the first two keys (Jn 14:15). Let’s also love others just as the Lord has loved us.
The Lord loved us even when we were still sinners and He sent His only begotten son to pay the price for our sins (Rom 5:8, Jn 3:16). If we love others just as He loved us, we will see beyond their weaknesses and shortcomings. This will at the end lead to peace in our relationships.
Beloved in the Lord, the word of God encourages us to strive to always live at peace with all men. This is however not easy to achieve because people are full of many and different weaknesses. To live at peace with others, let’s therefore forgive and love one another just as the Lord has loved us. Go and live in peace!
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers to live at peace with others.
God bless you all
