For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James 2:26 KJV
Faith is the access we have to the grace wherein we stand in Him. That is, access to every blessing we have in Him is through faith. Although everyone claims to have faith, not every faith is living unto Him. It takes a faith that is alive to walk in the fullness of the blessing.
When James addressed the subject of faith, he used Abraham as an example. When God imputed righteousness to Abraham, it was simply because he believed (Romans 4:3). However, the fact that he had received righteousness as a gift became evident when he obeyed Godโs voice. This act made his faith alive, for as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also (James 2:26 KJV).
Worksโthat is, following Godโs instructionsโgive life to our faith. If we truly believe God, we will do what He says. Those whose faith is dead not only miss out on the fullness of the blessing now, but also stand the chance of being rejected at the end, for those who do not obey Godโs instructions, despite hearing them, are considered workers of iniquity (Matthew 7:21).
When we spend quality time speaking in tongues, we are strengthened to receive His instructions and to yield to Him. Also, prayer and fasting increase our sensitivity to His voice, leading us to obey Him. Finally, receiving the ministration of the Word helps build our faith, making it lively.
Is your faith dead or alive? Do not be quick to answer. Examine how obedient you have been to God. For only when we walk in obedience can our faith be truly alive.
