Title: Lord I Have Just One Talent

For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five Talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.ย  (Matthew 25:14 NKJV)

ย

Our Lord Jesus Christ once likened the Kingdom of Heaven to a master who gave different Talents to his servants before he embarked on a journey to a far country. He gave one five Talents; another received two Talents and he gave one Talent to the other servant, each according to their individual abilities. After some time, he returned and asked them to give account.

Those who received five and two Talents traded and doubled what their master gave them, and he was proud of them. However, the one who received one Talent didnโ€™t do anything with it. The master was disappointed in this lazy servant, and he therefore took his Talent and gave it to the one who now has ten Talents. The Lazy servant was thrown into the outer darkness (Matt 25:14-30).

The master in this Parable is God and the servants represent Believers. The Lord has given you and I many diverse forms of Talents and Gifts, and we are supposed to use them to help build His Church and to help other people. How are you using yours? Donโ€™t forget that the Bible says that all Believers will stand before God and give account to Him based on how we lived our lives here on Earth (2 Cor 5:10).

There are some people who have been gifted with many Talents. However, most people I know donโ€™t have a lot of Talents but are really good in that one Talent they have. Therefore, donโ€™t compare yourself with other people. Donโ€™t be jealous or envious of what other people have. Letโ€™s rather thank God for the Talents and Gifts in other peopleโ€™s lives.

Focus on being faithful with that one Talent that the Lord has given you because you will be judged according to the number of Talents you were given, and not based on what other servants were given. Some people are called to pastor millions of people. Others are called to lead thousands and for some, hundreds, and tens. In the sight of God, none of these men is greater than the other. If you are faithful with where He has placed you and what He has called you to do, He will be proud of you (Matt 25:23).

Use your one Talent in the best way that you can to serve the Lord. Tell the Lord that, โ€œI have just one Talent, but I will use it to serve youโ€. Truly speaking, you donโ€™t need a lot of Talents to please the Lord. You only have to be faithful with whatever He has blessed you with.

Donโ€™t let fear of making mistakes, mockery or persecution block you from using the Talent that God has given you. Afterall, we are supposed to please God and not men. If the Lord is proud of you, what can mere mortals do to you? Know that God has not given us the Spirit of fear, but He has given us the Spirit of love, power, and a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7). The beautiful thing is that, when you are faithful with that one Talent that the Lord has given you, He will bless you with many different ones.

Beloved in the Lord, God has given us many different Talents and Gifts. Maybe you have one Talent just like many people. However, use that Talent to serve the Lord faithfully, and He will be super proud of you. Say to Him that, โ€œLord, my Talent is for your Glory!โ€

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to remove any obstacle preventing Believers from using our Talents and Gifts. Letโ€™s also ask the Lord to give us the boldness and the desire to be fruitful.

God bless you all
