Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 Luke 15: 18-21
As we know from the bible, the relationship between a man and a woman in marriage is supposed to be a reflection of our relationship with God (Ephesians 5:25-33). As a man wooing a lady to marry, you usually present yourself and also do acts of kindness and the lady accepts you or rejects you. According to God’s order, Her acceptance means submission to her husband. Then the husband has to continue to love and the woman has to continue to submit to the man (which in a way is a kind of worship although it has to be less than the worship of God). In the same way, God, despite being immensely loving is still Sovereign and so calls for our submission and worship.
Have you asked yourself why God despite being all-powerful does not make everyone obtain salvation automatically? That’s because God desires our submission or worship from a place of freedom (Joshua 24:14-15, John 3:16). God wants to be desired. He longs for sinners because he created us all and He loves us but still if a sinner does not repent and turn toward God He can not receive the fullness of God’s love which is Salvation in Christ Jesus. God in His infinite wisdom has done everything to make us desire Him with still room for freedom or choice so that your submission or worship has an element of choice.
Why do some people have more spiritual capacity than others? It is still the same reason why some people remain unbelievers. Choice! You have to draw closer for God to draw even closer. He is loving and He is sovereign. Just like the prodigal son if you just take one step towards God, God takes 100 steps towards you. There has to be a seeking, a step from your side, notwithstanding that God has already made a lot of steps toward us (1 John 4:10, Matthew 5:45), but still your step will trigger even more from God because God remains King!
