Title – Make up your mind

James 1:6-8 – 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. 

Faith is the anchor that holds everything together in the life of a believer. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. As children of God, our Father wants us to approach Him and ask in faith without doubting. God demands complete trust in Him and His ability to provide. In our verses for today, Apostle James enlightens us that a doubtful person is like a wave that can easily be tossed, and such a person should also not expect anything from God.  

The word “double-minded” is translated from the Greek word “dipsuchos” which can mean: uncertain; doubting; divided in interest, or two-spirited. The idea is of a person who tries to be two different persons at the same time or someone who does not know what he wants. Thus, the person would love to have something but is not sure whether he/she really needs that thing. God’s word and His promises are to be received in faith. The spirit of the person asking must be connected to the Spirit of God.

There is always a conflict within the heart of a double-minded person, for two spirits are wrestling within. As believers, we should endeavour to replace words of fear with words of faith. It is not everything we see or hear that is true. Whatever contradicts the word of God will tend to make us doubt God, and nothing can work for us in that circumstance.

Do not be double-minded concerning the promises of God. Do not be double-minded concerning your salvation. Do not doubt the protection of God over your life and your loved ones on a daily basis. The giants we read about all accomplished it through faith, and since we know God does not change, He can do it for us too. You just have to make up your mind. God bless you!

Prayer:

Let us thank God for His word today and the answers to our prayers. Let us also pray for greater and stronger faith to believe the word and the promises of God. Let us pray and cast out the spirit of doubt and the spirit of fear that contradicts our Spirit of faith.
