Making Profits

CALL TO PRAYER

Title:ย Making Profits

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity,ย it profiteth me nothing.

(1Co 13:3 KJV)

God operates the kingdom like a business. This knowledge was what inspired Jesusโ€™ reply to His parents when they came looking for Him. He told them, โ€œwist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?โ€ And as every good business person is aware, profit-making is one of the determinants to judge if a business is successful or not. This is also true for God. One way or the other, weโ€™ve all been entrusted with something the Lord wants us to trade with, even the salvation we have received is a seed. Now, the question is, are you making profits?

The importance of the return of investment to God can be seen in the fact that He took the kingdom from the Jews and gave it to the gentiles (Matt. 21:43). For the Jews did not produce its fruits (make profits). The demand for profit by God is not just towards kingdom organizations or groups, but to us individually. The parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 was told in the context of individuals.

All that we have been given by God, which also includes our lives, are seeds or talents God wants us to make profits with. For example, the salvation we have received is also a call to the ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:11-21). Meaning, we are all required to share the same message we believed at salvation to others. As we do, more souls are being added to the kingdom, which becomes gain to us and profit to the Father from our lives. In the same vein, the ministration of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is a way for us to make profits in the kingdom. Apostle Paul stated thatย โ€œBut the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one forย the profit of all (1 Cor. 12:7)โ€.ย As we proved ourselves faithful in that weโ€™ve been entrusted with, we are making profits in the kingdom. But there is something more.

How we trade with what we have been entrusted with determines if the gain we have made is considered profit to God. Apostle Paul revealed how love in the ministration of the gifts and talents we have received makes it profitable, and without it, thereโ€™s isnโ€™t profit (1Cor. 13: 1-3). Therefore, love is what gives value to all that we do in the kingdom. No wonder the one servant who didnโ€™t trade with his talent in Matthew 25:14-30 was considered wicked.ย

Furthermore, apart from love, being willing in the ministration of what you have been entrusted with qualifies you for reward (profits). Apostle Paul stated, โ€œFor if I do this thingย willingly,ย I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me (1 Cor. 9:17)โ€.ย The sign that you are willing is seen in your joyfulness while doing that which you have been entrusted with.

Finally, in the trading (ministration) of the spiritual and physical blessings we have received, we donโ€™t collect rewards (which can be money) from those we trade with (minister to). This is the difference between Kingdom business and businesses of men. This was what Abraham demonstrated when he refused payments from the king of Sodom, who he delivered in war (Gen. 14: 21-23). God responded to his action by revealing His reward to him, which was God Himself (Gen. 15:1). This attitude was also demonstrated by Apostle Paul when he refused payment from those He ministered to. He did this so he can make gains, that is, profits (1 Cor. 9:18, 19).

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word today. Let us also ask Him to help the entire body of Christ to trade with what we have been entrusted with and that none of us should miss out on our reward.
