The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4 NIV

God’s purpose for creating man was that we would be in His image and likeness, which would enable us to have dominion (to rule or reign) over the created things on earth (Gen. 1:26). The extent of our rule or leadership is determined by the extent to which we are conformed to God’s image. When God said “in our image, and according to our likeness” in Genesis 1:26, He was saying, let us make man to be like Jesus Christ, for Jesus Christ is the express image of His person (Hebrew 1:3).

Jesus Christ is the glory of God, the more we are like Him, the more we can bring God’s idea of leadership to earth. However, our transformation to be like Him is a function of our ability to see Him. Apostle Paul said “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord (II Cor. 3:18 NKJV)“. We behold with our eyes, and the eyes of the spirit is understanding (Eph. 1:18). Because of this, the devil blinds the eyes of those who do not believe as revealed in 2 Cor. 4:4. Though that part of scriptures speaks of those in this world, it also applies to Christians who do not believe certain aspects of the truth. Therefore, the first step to opening the eyes of the spirit of a man to see Jesus is believing in the truth.

Jesus Christ told Nathaniel, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that (John 1:50)”. When we believe word’s from Him, He increases us to see greater things in Him. Another thing we need to do to increase our level of sight is prayer; we can simply ask Him to open our eyes to see His glory (Psalm 146:8). When He was teaching me this, He told me that there are different realms in the spirit and not every realm is the realm of His glory. So when praying, don’t just say open my eyes to see, but mention that you want to see His glory. Again, how clearly you see is determined by the purity of your heart. For this reason, we pray for God to purify our heart (Matt. 5:8). Furthermore, praying for the spirit of wisdom and revelation provides light, which gives sight (Eph. 1:17-18)

Finally, spending time meditating on and listening to the word gives understanding to you and understanding is the eyes of the spirit. Meditation also includes taking time to consider the dreams and visions He gives to you. Dreams and visions are means to receive information, but understanding comes to us when we take time to consider them and seek God for their meanings.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s also ask Him to help us to see His glory.
