Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth. (Numbers 12:3 KJV)

I heard the story of a man who had a heated argument with his pregnant wife and shortly afterwards, his wife went into labour and was about to give birth, but the man was still very angry with his wife that he just totally ignored her. It took the intervention of a neighbour to get her to the hospital. The spirit of anger and unforgiveness was ready to destroy a lot of things in his home, but God had mercy on him and rescued his wife and child.

The same thing happened to Moses, but he behaved differently. The people God had placed him over kept murmuring and complaining. They even blamed him for taking them out of Egypt. The level of frustration was so great at some point, he hit the rock for water when he was supposed to speak to it. This made God pronounce that he would not enter into the promised land (Num. 20:11-12). Yet, Moses never stopped interceding and teaching the whole of Israel the way to go and how to serve God acceptably. He was not offended by them and not offended by God.

When people offend you, what goes on in your mind? Do you secretly pray they fall into calamities, or do you desire revenge, or do you altogether stop caring because of offence, like the man in our opening paragraph? The testimony of Moses was that he was the meekest man on the earth.

Meekness is a character of God and also a fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). The God we serve is meek and is always willing to forgive our sins and trespasses when we run to Him. Sin, pain, and bitterness open the door for demonic influences and manipulations. Therefore, we must ask for the grace to be meek and not allow offence and the devil to rob us of the plans of God for our lives.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us pray for the grace of meekness and submission to God’s will at all times.
