Title: New Year Resolution
Jesus replied, โI tell you the truth, Peterโthis very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.โ
ย (Matthew 26:34 NLT)
ย
We are in that time of the year again when in a good mood many of us make great promises to ourselves about what we are going to do in the New Year. However, most of the promises we usually abandon and forget the second week of January. Apostle Peter here is a great example. He made a promise not only to himself to be a faithful servant but also to Jesus our savior. Apostle Peter wanted to prove to Jesus that he will never leave His side even in bad days.
Letโs be honest, how many of you kept to the diet? How many of you finished reading the book you bought? Or kept exercising beyond February because you made that goal to do it the whole year? Itโs good to set a goal for yourself, but let those goals be realistic; Goals which wonโt require too much from you. Even the smallest achievement is still an achievement. Also, we have to set honest goals. I donโt really know about Apostle Peter when he made this promise, but one thing I know for sure is that Jesus knew He wasnโt going to keep it. For example, if you know you arenโt the type that likes running, donโt say you will be jogging to lose weight.
Starting from today and in the coming weeks, I would like to share four commitments God encourages us to make.ย I guarantee you that the start of 2022 could become one of the most significant events in your life. If you will follow Godโs advice, then 2022 could be the best year of your life. The first one for this week is:
- COMMIT YOURSELF TO FORGET YOUR FAILURES
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:13-14).
Some of us have failed in one way or the other in our lives. These failures may not be recorded on social media or TV for everyone to see but they are recorded in our hearts and minds to remember. For Some of us, our failures are painful memories. Maybe for some of you, they are the bad relationships you had in the past. For some, it may be the wrong decisions we made when bringing up our children. Itโs even more likely that many of us know that we have failed ourselves in some ways and all of us should know that in some way, we have failed God.
What the word of God is telling us is that we should not let our painful memories stop us from moving forward; Not allowing failures stop us to move forward into the future God has laid for us (Jeremiah 29:11). I believe that the beginning of the New Year 2022 is a good time for us to rise to the challenge. Say to yourself, โI am going to, with the help of God, forget my past! I am going to stop torturing myself about what I did or didnโt do!โ This New Year is a good time to stop being chained to our past failures. God is saying here in His Word that He doesnโt want you to go through your life branding yourself as a failure. God doesnโt create failures. If He did then He would have been a failure too (Genesis 1:27).
Beloved servants of God, the advice of Godโs word has stood the test of all times. God is telling us through His word that we are perfectly made and not failures. Jesus Christ died on the cross to set us free from every bondage and forgive us from all our sins. All we need to do is to put our trust in the plans He has for us and move on.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His Word today. Letโs thank God for taking all our failures and giving us hope for another day. Letโs also ask Him to help all believers to forget their past failures and press on towards the prize.
God bless youย all.
