And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples [3] and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” (Matthew 11:2-3 NKJV)

The plans and purposes of God in our lives are crucial. When God gives a man an assignment, a vision or a task, there are a lot of factors that surrounds it that we do not have power over. Part of these may be the magnitude, time of manifestation, the length of the wilderness journey or training period and others. When God called Noah to build an ark for the safety of mankind, he wasnโ€™t told how long it will take before the flood will come but this word of God was sure to come to pass.

When it seems like what God has said is not coming to pass the way we had imagined it or not even looking feasible after carrying out every instruction He has given to us, we are likely to adopt the mindset of John the baptist who eventhough his whole ministry was set up by God for him to be the forerunner of Christ and also identify him (Jn. 1:33), he still came to a point where he began to doubt the validity of what God had revealed to him about the person of Jesus Christ. This was even harder for him to accept because as a prophet, he probably sees visions and what was playing out did not seem like the man he had seen in the spirit.

Therefore there is an element of patience that is required to obtain the promise of God for our lives (Heb. 6:12). Since God controls the major parameters associated with the vision He has given, we as vessels therefore need to embrace patience coupled with strong faith that like Abraham did. There will be situations that will make us ask questions whether the will of God is still coming to pass or not but the scriptures tell us that the vision will not fail but surely come to pass (Hab. 2:3).

Prayer point

Let us thank God for the word today. Let us pray for the spirit of patience and faith to come upon us as we wait for the fulfillment of His promises in our lives.
