Title: Opening of the Eyes

Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’ You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
(Matthew 23:16-17 NIV)
When Adam partook of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, his eyes were opened (Genesis 3:7). However, the new sight he gained gave him a different perception of himself. So, his new sight affected his judgment; his perception of himself, God, and the things around him. Though Adam’s eyes were opened to the natural, he actually became blind in the Spirit.
A spiritually blind person cannot receive the things of God. When Jesus interacted with the Jews, He revealed their spiritually blind state by their poor judgment, for they placed more value on natural things than the spiritual. He called them blind fools (Matthew 23:17). Their poor judgment affected their worship of God. This isn’t only true for the Jews but also for humanity that isn’t yet saved, because it’s the blindness inherited from Adam.
It is God’s will that the sight of men be restored, as blindness makes you a subject of the devil. When Jesus Christ sent Apostle Paul to preach the Gospel, He said, “…I am sending you to the Gentiles to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God…” (Acts 26:17-18 NLT). So, when we hear the Gospel, our eyes are opened. True deliverance is the opening of the eyes of those in bondage.
However, opened eyes are not the same thing as quality sight. The quality (that is, clarity) of your sight is determined by the purity of your heart (Matthew 5:8). Though some people are believers, they have poor sight. But when we pray that God should purify our hearts, our sight becomes clearer.
Continually praying that God should open your eyes to see His glory will increase your capacity to see. Those with the greatest sight have the greatest authority, and their worship is more pleasing to God, for their judgment is in line with His.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask Him to purify the hearts of all believers and help us all to see His glory.
