And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.
Colossians 3:23 (KJV)
Though all things were made for His pleasure, work was what necessitated the creation of man. Manโs work description was clearly stated in Genesis 1:26. The sum of his assignment is dominion. In fact, other created things were restrained from manifesting until there was a man to tend the garden (Genesis 2:5).
Like Adam, there is a work that necessitated your coming into this world. As Scripture says, โFor we are Godโs handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to doโ (Ephesians 2:10 NIV). God expects us to do what He has committed into our hands faithfully, and one way faithfulness is expressed is by doing the work heartilyโpassionately.
Not many people do the work of God with passion. This may be due to the present challenges they are experiencing, but God expects us to rise above those challenges, see the glory ahead, and carry out the work with the passion it requires.
Some years ago, during a season when He led me to gather people to pray, God taught me an important lesson that has helped keep my passion for His work aflame. In the spirit, He took me to the Living Faith Church auditorium, which could contain about fifty thousand people. I saw the crowd in the church, and then I heard the voice of God say to me, โDo you love Me more than this?โ Immediately, I understood that He was telling me not to focus on the number of people in our gatherings.
I know a time will come when I will speak to millions and billions of people at once, but He is teaching me to speak to just one or two people with the same passion I would use to speak to millions and billions when that time comes. I share this to say that your love for God should inspire your service to Him; your passion for His work should not be determined by external factors.
One sign of willingness is joyfulness, and it is only when we do His work joyfully that we receive the reward (Isaiah 1:19; 1 Corinthians 9:17). Having this understanding will help you remain dedicated to the work He has committed to you. Jesus Christ said, โI have food to eat that you know nothing aboutโ (John 4:32 NIV), after ministering to the Samaritan woman despite being hungry. Passion for His work turns service into food for the soul.
Do what He has entrusted to you passionately. A reward awaits you at the end.
