According to the English dictionary, when used as a noun, the word “Honour” means “High respect; Great esteem”. The verb form is similar: “To regard with great respect”. Therefore, honour is a virtue that determines how you are perceived and regarded by others. God is the source of honour, and the measure of it He gives to each individual is determined by certain factors.

Firstly, the way you honour God determines the honour He gives to you. Scriptures says “… for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed (1 Sam. 2:30?). God watches and sees the way we respond to things that concern Him and rewards us with the honour appropriate to our actions. How do we honour God? We honour God when we put Him first, when we obey His instructions, and when we show reverence (Godly fear) towards Him etc. God and His word are one. Therefore, our attitude towards His word reflects the reverence we have for Him.

Again, God honours us when we seek to understand. Seeking to understand is like seeking for treasures. The most valuable materials are not found on the surface of the earth, many times you have to dig deep down to get them. This is the same attitude God wants us to show towards His word. Many times God speaks in dark speeches, or He indicates things instead of saying them plainly. He does this to hide things, which becomes His voice calling you to seek them out. The Bible says “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter (Prov. 25:2)”. God bequeaths the honour due kings on us when we are those who seek Him for the secret things.

As you meditate on scriptures with the intention to understand His mind, ponder on the dream and vision He gives to you to understand what He is actually saying, and as you seek to understand the signs of time to know what He requires you to do, the measure of honour in your life increases.
