“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God” Mathew 5:9
I heard a pastor once say in a sermon “all wars are caused by people who don’t have peace in their hearts; so, the war starts from inside”. Some dictionaries describe peace as freedom from disturbance or tranquillity. Peace can be external but not internal and surely what is more important is the internal one. Sometimes it can seem as if there is peace in a city or a family or a person and then something happens and all of a sudden, the situation changes drastically for the worse. That’s because the peace was just external meanwhile internally there was strife, there was injustice, there were grievances, grudges, envy, anger, and all kinds of internal disturbances.
Like our opening verse says we are called to be peacemakers. But how can we be peacemakers if we don’t have peace in our own hearts and mind? You see, you can’t give what you don’t have. When we come to Christ, He sets us free from every yoke of the enemy and gives us rest (peace)(Mathew 11:28-29). However, we need to abide in Him to sustain that peace. Before He left us physically He gave us peace (John 14:27) and repeated again to us that we should not let our hearts be troubled nor be afraid. Worry and fear are two of the main thieves of peace. Find a man who is worried or living in fear and you have found someone not at peace. All over Scriptures, the words “don’t be afraid” are repeated so many times. Are Christians exempt from problems, and challenges? Capital NO. So how do we have peace then? It is something the world can’t understand. We have it by something simple looking but yet powerful. That is by prayers! In Philippians 4:6-7 we read:
“Don’t worry about anything but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. 7 Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.”
As we read Mark 11: 24. “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”, it is paramount that when we pray, we should believe that we have received.
In Mathew 7:11 we read:
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
You see, God is not wicked. On the contrary, He is our father and He loves us. This is not just a consolation but the gospel truth. This means when you pray have this confidence that you are asking your father and after asking rest; receive His peace. Don’t look at what another person has and allow envy to steal your peace. Thank God for them and pray for yours. To be continued … Until then stay blessed.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word this morning. Let’s pray for the grace to safeguard our peace through prayer about everything and worrying about nothing.
