Title: Quickly Repenting

9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 1 John 3:9. NIV
Today I would like to remind us about the importance of repenting quickly. As ones who are still growing in faith, we may find ourselves falling in certain areas again and again but it is important to keep repenting and doing so quickly.
Even the mature in faith fall into sin and the habit of repenting quickly is an attribute that expresses an aspect of spiritual maturity (Romans 3:22-23). One of my favorite quotations as relates to repenting quickly is Proverbs 24:16:
For a righteous man may fall seven times
And rise again,
But the wicked shall fall by calamity.
Although it may seem as though this relates to physical calamity, it also speaks of a spiritual fall. That’s because in the bible the same verse speaks different revelations which are confirmed by other quotations just like this revelation from this verse is confirmed by our opening verse.
As soon we realize we have sinned we are to acknowledge our faults and ask for forgiveness from both God and men when it affects a man. We don’t want to continue in sin because that is a dangerous path to tread. Grace is not a license to sin. Continuing in sin would normalize it and harden your heart so much so that you can’t believe God’s word and live by faith anymore, hence indirectly cutting yourself off from the vine (Hebrews 10:26-29, John 15: 1-4).
Let’s not forget that the wages of sin is still death and sin still has consequences. So we repent while it’s early before it is too late. Again the bible says when we sin we grieve the Holy Spirit that dwells in us (Ephesians 4:29-31).
God is helping us to live by faith and walk in love and Holiness but we still slip and forget ourselves and fall into temptations. However, we must get back up quickly and return to God’s presence, repenting and seeking grace to rest and work in His love.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for these reminders. May God help us to run back quickly to His presence and remain in His love so we can rest and work through His grace.
