Title โ€“ Remind God of His words

Genesis 32:12 – But you said, โ€˜I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitudeโ€™.

As children of God, we know God to be a faithful God. God keeps His word. If God promises, we are certain that He will deliver. Therefore, if we know God from this perspective, then we can rest and be assured that His promises shall be fulfilled. That is true, however, God also desires that we remind Him of the things he has said (Isaiah 43:26), and this is a powerful prayer strategy.

Todayโ€™s verse highlights a portion of Jacobโ€™s prayer before meeting his brother Esau. In Jacobโ€™s prayer, he reminded God of His promise to make his descendants as numerous as the sand of the sea. So, why was it necessary that Jacob remind God of this promise when he was seeking protection from God? Jacob was afraid of Esau. He had cheated Esau twenty years ago and taken his blessings. After all these years, he is now coming face-to-face with his brother again.

He did not know what Esau would do. Is Esau coming out for revenge? Has he not forgotten what happened twenty years ago? These were some of the questions that Jacob was asking himself. Now, if Esau comes and kills him and his family, the promise of God cannot be fulfilled. In summary, Jacob while praying for protection was actually asking God to do as He has promised. And behold, when Esau came, he did not harm Jacob. We should make it a habit of putting God in remembrance of His promises, it quickens the response to our prayers. God bless you!

Prayer:

Let us thank God for His word today and the answers to all our prayers. Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to enlighten our eyes, take charge of our thought patterns, and quicken our senses to see, think, and know what to ask for in prayers.
