For we are Godโs handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Eph. 2:10 NIV
The first man, Adam, was formed from the dust of the ground and placed in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:8). In Eden was his assignment, as he was to tend the garden. All that was needed for the sustenance of man were in Eden. As we know, man was cast out from the Garden when he sinned by eating of the forbidden fruit (Gen. 3:23). However, his casting out from the Garden was for his protection, as God did not want him to eat from the tree of life and forever remain in that death state. Therefore, his casting out was temporary, until the completion of the promised redemption (Gen. 3:15).
Late Myles Munroe defined Eden to meanย โa place (or a time) where the presence of God is an open door to heavenโ. Thisย means, that the presence of God was what made Eden unique. This was the reason the first time man called upon God was after his fall (Gen. 4:26). God indicated his plan to restore man to Eden by inspiring men to build altars in places where they had an encounter with Him. This translated to the construction of the Tabernacle, which was an insignia of Godโs presence with Israel. Then the building of the temple, which was built to house Godโs presence.ย
The fulfilment of what the altars, Tabernacle, and the Temples indicated came at the redemption of man, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit. This means the presence of God that Adam lost is now forever tabernacle in us. Therefore, the coming of the Holy Spirit marks our restoration to Eden.
The benefits of the restored presence can only be enjoyed when His presence is manifest (Jehovah Shammah). As Adamโs preoccupation was to tend the Garden (Gen. 2:15), we are to tend our Garden by doing those things that will make His presence (which is in us) manifest. This includes being conscious of Him and communicating with Him at all times.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help the body of Christ to do those things that will make His presence manifest in us.ย
