Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Philippians 2:5-7)

The scriptural account into the temptation of Abraham to offer up his son Isaac as a sacrifice in Gen. 22:1-13 gave us a rare access to the workings of the heart of this patriarch. The man had been asked to give up his future, his legacy, the long awaited child with nothing else in view or promise of a replacement. Yet, the next morning, without asking further questions, he took his journey with his son in search of where God will be happy to have him sacrificed.
One of the logical question that might come to mind is why accept so easily and not ask God further questions to be sure thatโ€™s what He is saying. The reason was because God had allowed him to learn obedience, humility and fear of God through his years of waiting and also the events surrounding the putting away of Hagar with her son Ishmael.

There are people today that God is leading to do certain things or make particular sacrifices but instead of obeying, they rather choose to ask questions and rationalise to see if it logical to take such steps. As the owner of our destiny, God knows the best route to take us through to bring us to fulfilment but sometimes, it might not make sense. The widow of Zarephath had the last meal to eat and die with her son. It was that same food that Elijah now requested for and still insisted that they make for him first(1Kings 17:10-15). Humanly speaking, granting such request in todayโ€™s world will be hard but with a heart of obedience and sacrifice, the Spirit of God will strengthen us to obey Him (Acts 5:32).

For the will of the Father to come to pass, Jesus had to submit himself in total obedience and paid the ultimate sacrificial price with his life, dying a shameful death on the cross for the redemption of man back to God and now He has a name that is above all other names. Are you willing to obey God even if it takes sacrifice? Everyone that has followed Him on this path ended up in glorification.

Prayer point:
Letโ€™s thank God for His word. Letโ€™s pray that God will give us a heart of obedience and sacrifice and to follow Him continually.

God bless you!
