Title: See as God sees

5 โBefore Iย formed you in the wombย I knew you;Before you were born Iย sanctified[a]ย you;
Iย ordained you a prophet to the nations.โ 6ย Then said I: โAh, Lordย God!
Behold, I cannot speak, for Iย amย a youth.โ Jeremiah 1:5-6
Right now, if someone asks you, “who are you”, I believe the first thing you will say is probably your name, nationality or origin if you are in a foreign land, your age if the conversation demands, your parents, your interests and so forth. If your faith or belief will come in the equation it might be somewhere later in the conversation. So, the question is, are all these things we say really who we are? Is that how God also sees or knows us?
These identifiable characteristics we often mention do not really define who we are. To humans, that is who we are but to God that is not who we are. In today’s verses we read a discourse between God and Jeremiah, the prophet. From the conversation we see that who and what Jeremiah thought he was, was not who God thought he was. To Jeremiah, he was just a youth, inaccurate in speech and not ready for anything great. But in the eyes of God, he had created a prophet, someone who will be His mouthpiece to the world.
Now, one of the effects of having a different perception than what God has is that it can hinder so many things. Left to Jeremiah alone, he was not ready and worthy of anything a prophet does. This was because he did not see himself as a prophet. One thing I have personally identified especially among the Christian youth is that most of them see themselves just as Jeremiah did, they see themselves as just youth and nothing else. They know they have gifts, they know they have a calling, they know they have a divine assignment, but they are waiting for their youthful period to be over before they embark on that journey towards fulfilment of their destinies. But that is deception from hell. After your youthful ages, it will be difficult to do much.
I want today’s message to encourage you to embark on the journey towards the fulfilment of your true self, and your true self is what you have been called by God to do. Anything outside that is a bonus, and if you are not able to accomplish that, then your life may be deemed as a failure. You are not too young and you do not have too much time too. There is a saying that it’s better late than never but I also believe it’s better earlier than later. If we do not know what we have been called to do then we should go to the One who has called us. God knows what He has for us and only Him can guide us towards its successful accomplishment. God bless you!
