โ€œWhat do you want me to do for you?โ€ โ€œLord, I want to see,โ€ he replied. Jesus said to him, โ€œReceive your sight; your faith has healed you.โ€ Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

Spiritual sight is an important aspect of our faith, for before we can follow Jesus, we have to see Him. So the instruction “… take up their cross and follow me (Matt. 16:24)” cannot be fulfilled if we cannot see Him.

Luke 18:41-43 recorded the healing of a blind man. When Jesus Christ prayed for him, the Bible recorded that “Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God”. As a blind man, he could not follow Jesus, but as soon as his sight was restored, he followed him. Like that blind man, many of us need our sight restored.

The first step in receiving our sight is believing in Jesus. There’s a veil covering the eyes of those outside Christ. The scripture says “But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away (2 Cor 3:16)”. Now, having the veil removed doesn’t mean your eyes are healthy. Like that blind man in Luke 18, we need to pray that God should open our eyes to see His glory. This prayer is a continuous one, as the restoration of our sight can be a process, and His glory is endless.

As we pray that He should open our eyes, we need to read the scriptures to see Jesus Christ through the word. As we do, God increases our insight, and we can follow Jesus by doing what He says. Apart from the scriptures, God also reveals himself to us in dreams and visions, in natural events, in the lives of others and in our own lives.

The clarity of your sight is determined by the purity of your heart. Scriptures say “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God (Matt 5:8)”. Along with praying for Him to open our eyes, we still need to pray for him to purify our hearts.

Seeing Jesus goes beyond seeing visions, it is the ability to perceive His heart through that which He shows us (Matt 13:15).

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to open our eyes to see Jesus and He should purify our hearts.
