โ€œThe King will reply, โ€˜Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.โ€™ Mathew 25:40

You might have heard this teaching before “Seeing Jesus in everyone” or maybe you are hearing it for the first time. But for me, I first heard it through the teachings of Chaira Lubich the founder of the Focolare movement. It was a remarkable teaching that really marked my life and I believe it is worth always repeating. Seeing Jesus in everyone.

Imagine if everyone you saw was Jesus. ? Would I be rude to Jesus? Would I turn a blind eye to Jesus’s needs if I saw him in need and I had the opportunity to help? But indeed Jesus has promised “whatever you do, even to the undeserving you do it to me” (me paraphrasing Mathew 25:40). The bible says how can you claim to love God whom you don’t see if you don’t love the person you see (1 John 4:20). Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments and what commandments did He give? It is to love one another as He has loved us. But how can we really see Jesus in everyone? It is impossible without God’s spirit. We need the help of God. We need to pray for grace.

We love God because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Everyone you see is an opportunity to show Jesus that you love Him too. You know, the way you see someone influences the way you treat the person. So if we use our imagination and consciousness to say “this is Jesus, that is Jesus “ because indeed they are since He said “…you did it to me!”, then we are really motivated to love that person despite their bad attitude.ย  When we constantly remind ourselves of God’s love and mercy towards us in thanksgiving, we can easily extend that love and mercy to others. Then you will become like a river that always has fresh water because water comes in and it flows out instead of being a lake.

Did you know that dishing out love is the way we show that we are Jesus’s disciples? See John 13:35.

Prayer Point:ย

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s pray for the grace to remember Him in all we do.
