Title: Seeing the Difference
By: Daniel Peter
Date: 12.01.2022
The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
(Deu 18:15-18 KJV)
In my last contribution to the Call to Prayer, I wrote about the new stream of the Prophetic, where I compared the Prophetic that based on the Old Covenant and that of the New Covenant. Today, I will like to give further clarity on this.
At the Exodus of Israel from Egypt to Israel, God decided to have a conversation with the people He was bringing into a new land. It was recorded in Exodus 19:1-34:30 how God came down on mount Sinai and spoke to them. The Children of Israel heard His voice and saw His glory (the great fire). Being a very fearful sight for them, they demanded they didn’t want to hear and see directly from God again (Deu. 18:16). The Lord affirmed that their request was good and promised to raise up another prophet like Moses (Invariably, a Prophetic that is not based on hearing and seeing).
Before I speak on the identity of this other Prophet Like Moses, itโs for me to reveal that the children of Israel before the coming of Christ were carnal men. Meaning, they were not spiritually perceptive. To reach them, God had to speak in a way that their minds can understand. This is the reason He spoke to them with an audible voice and by appearing to them in that manner. The Old Testament Prophetic (the old stream) is based on this: Audio and Visual. Now, God promised another Prophet like unto Moses. The promise was not fulfilled by the rise of Prophets like Samuel, Daniel, Jeremiah and Ezekiel etc. These were also part of the old stream and Prophesied under the Old Covenant with Moses (Luke 16:29). The Prophet like unto Moses God spoke about was Jesus Christ, whom the Jews were expecting (John 6:14). Jesus is a prophet like unto Moses because by Him God established A New Covenant with the people. The way we expect to hear from God now should not be as the children of Israel (they heard sounds and saw visuals), but we should all learn to discern His voice in the order of the New Covenant which is based on the understanding of the Word. For Jesus is the Word (Rev. 19: 11 – 13).
Again, the coming of the new stream did not stop the old stream from flowing. When He promised to give the Holy Spirit, He said He will send the former and the latter rain (Joel 2:23, Hos. 6:3). By former, He was referring to the Old Covenant Prophetic, and by latter, He was referring to the New Covenant Prophetic. So, in the New Testament era, we still hear the audible voice of God and see visuals from Him, but we are not to seek them, but we are to seek God and allow Him to speak in the way He sees fit. Furthermore, we are to interpret all that we hear and see with the understanding of the New Testament.
For example, one operating in the old stream may say to a Christian that there is a generational curse in their lives, and they have to break it, not acknowledging that a Christian cannot be cursed for Christ has become a curse for us (Gal. 3:13). Again, the part of scriptures that says if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts (Heb. 3:15-17) is not necessarily referring to an audible voice like the children of Israel heard, but to the voice of the Gospel. Once you hear the Gospel being preached, thatโs God speaking to you.
Prayer Point
Letโs thank God for His word today. Let us also ask Him to increase our discernment of His voice and deepen our understanding of the New Covenant.
