I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their laboursย Matt. 4:38 KJV

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest trulyย isย plenteous, but the labourersย areย few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.ย Matt. 9:37 KJV

We have come to a time when the Lord has given the Church a hope of a great harvest, greater than that experienced in provious generations. This hope is what is now termed as the Billion-Soul Harvest. Despite He has ordained this, there is a preparation of heart that God expects from the Church.

When Jesus Christ was talking about soul winning with His disciples, He used the words ‘labourers’ and ‘harvesters (reapers)’ separately. He said Matthew 4:38: ‘I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours’. However, when He affirmed that harvest is ready, He did not ask the disciples to pray that the father should send forth harvesters (reapers) to the harvest field, but labourers (Matt. 9:37). The reason why Jesus Christ is asking us to pray for labourers is because despite the harvest being ready, there is still much work to be done, and the harvest only comes after a season of perseverance.

Labourers are those who have the ability to persevere in a time when there seems to be no result. These people don’t just harvest, they are used by God to create the way to the harvest and preparing the harvest for reaping. An example of such is John the Baptist, whose assignment was to prepare the way for the Lord (the word). These labourers spend time interceding for the lost and make the initial investment of preaching the word, which helps prepare the harvest. At the beginning of their ministries, their success will not be marked by the number of souls reaped, but their faithfulness. However, a time comes, when they are used by God to reap the harvest they have helped prepare.

For the end time harvest, the reapers are those who laboured for the harvest. Every one who desires to have a part of the harvest must be willing to do the hard work of preparing the way to the harvest.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask God for the grace to be faithful in the ministry we have received from Him.
