For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh,ย but by love serve one another.

(Gal 5:13 KJV)

Service in the kingdom is one of the most important aspects of our walk with God. There are different levels of our relationship with God: sonship, friendship, bride, and servanthood. Although we have access to our authority by sonship, we can only be used by God as a servant. This service is not only towards God, but also one another.

Our key scripture for today suggests that the best use of the liberty we have received in Christ is to serve another. For us to fulfil this, we have to know the characteristics of a servant. The first characteristic of a servant is that his life is not his own; he is owned by someone. For us Christians, we have been bought by God with Christ being the price of our purchase (1 Cor. 6:20). This implies that we do not have rights over our lives, which means we should always be subjected to the will of the father. This is a reality we have to accept so we can walk in His will.

Another characteristic of a servant is that he is always obedient to the instruction of the master, regardless of his opinion or convenience. This was exemplified when Jesus converted water to wine (John 2:1-11). Jesus Christ instructed the servants to fill the water pot with water and serve from it to the governor of the feast as wine. This instruction is illogical, but because they were servants, they obeyed without reasoning it out. By their Obedience, Godโ€™s glory was revealed. A servant does whatever the master says.

In conclusion, we serve God by being submitted to His will and obeying Him. Also, we serve one another by ministering our gifts with love (1 Peter 4:10).

Prayer Point

Letโ€™s take time out today to ask God to give each member of the body of Christ the heart of a servant.
