Therefore Jesus told them, โ€œMy time is not yet here; for you any time will do… โ€ญโ€ญJohnโ€ฌ โ€ญ7:6โ€ฌ โ€ญNIV

โ€ฌโ€ฌ However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. โ€ญโ€ญJohnโ€ฌ โ€ญ7:10โ€ฌ โ€ญNIV

The word sensitive means ” to be quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences”. Therefore, spiritual sensitivity is the “ability to be quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences in the spirit”. God is always speaking, however, not with an audible voice or a vision at all times. To pick the signals of God, we have to be sensitive to it.

In the ministry and life of Jesus Christ, we would see that they were times He made sudden decisions that seem different from what he had mentioned earlier. For example, when His brothers asked Him if he was going to Jerusalem in John 7, though His answer to them indicated no, but soon after they left, we find Jesus going to Jerusalem (John 7:10). You may ask, did Jesus lie to His brothers? Clearly no, but it’s obvious that the Father might have spoken to Him soon after the conversation with His brothers. Jesus’ decision to go to Jerusalem revealed His spiritual sensitivity to God’s voice.

Every child of God hears from God, but not every child responds to the voice of God. Our ability to respond to His voice is a function of our spiritual sensitivity. One of the hindrances to us responding to the voice of God is the fear of what people would think of us. If Jesus Christ had considered in His heart what his brothers would think of him if they saw Him in Jerusalem, He would not have being able to obey God at that time.

The fear that we may not be hearing correctly may also stop one from responding to what he or she is discerning from God in that moment. Therefore, as our confidence in what we have received increases,ย  our ability to respond to the voice of God also increases. Being conscious of the presence of God and being in the readiness to receive from Him in any way He chooses to speak helps increase our spiritual sensitivity.

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask him to help us be sensitive to His voice.
