May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thes. 5:23 NIV

ย

The salvation that our Lord and Savior brought is far-reaching, affecting our spirits, our souls, and our bodies. Knowing how this salvation is and will be experienced by the different parts of our human nature will help us in understanding Godโ€™s plan for the ages and our hope in Christ.ย

The creature man is fully defined by his spirit, soul, and body, making him a tripartite being, like God Himself. The spirit of a man was created (Gen. 1:26, 27), his body was formed (Gen. 3:7), and his soul became when God breathed the spirit of a man inside the body that was formed (Gen. 3:7). Therefore, man was created, he was formed, and he became.

When man sinned, his spirit died immediately (Gen. 2:17), his soul was enslaved by the enemy (Rom. 6:16), and his body became a house for sin (Rom. 7:18). Man needed help in every area of his being after his fall. Therefore, the salvation (which is also a re-creation) that Christ brought seeks to restore every aspect of manโ€™s being to Godโ€™s original intent. And this happens in different stages from the day we believed the gospel.

The spirit of a man is saved the moment one believes in Jesus and professes His Lordship (Rom. 10:10). The salvation of the spirit means life, which is now eternal (John 3:16), has been imparted into it, restoring it from death. The salvation of the spirit is complete, meaning the spirit of a man is everything God intends it to be. Now, despite the salvation that the spirit received at new birth, the soul isnโ€™t yet saved. For the bible said โ€˜โ€ฆ.humbly accept the word planted in you, which canย save youย (James 1:21)โ€™.ย Jamesย was writing to Christians, and the โ€˜youโ€™ he mentioned was the soul part of a man. Therefore, the more we hear the word and receive His truth, the more our soul is delivered from the powers that enslaved it when Adam fell. This salvation is not instant, but continuous, even till the second coming of our Lord. The salvation of the soul is sometimes referred to as the renewal of the mind, for the mind is that part of the soul by which we reason and process information. The extent we can recognize the will of God and know what is best to do in any situation is a revelation of the extent of the salvation your soul has experienced (Rom. 12: 1-2).ย

Finally, the body of a man is an important aspect of his being. The reason man can dwell and function on earth is because of His body (Ps. 115:16). No spirit, including God, has the right to function on the earth without a body. This is the reason the devil is always seeking to possess the bodies of humans (Jude 9, 22-24). Therefore, the salvation of the body is very important. The salvation of the body is experienced in two forms: firstly, by faith in the finished work of Christ, where we take the death of His body as our death, and the resurrection of His body as our resurrection (Rom. 6:10, 11). This consideration is done with the mind, and the intention is to render the power of sin useless (Rom. 6:13). Secondly, the salvation of the body will be accomplished at the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ, when our mortal bodies will be covered up with immortality (1 Cor. 15:53). At this point, salvation is said to be complete.
