This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Joshua 1:8 KJV
At the start of the ministry of Joshua, he had an experience with God where He revealed the way to attain good success. His emphasis in that conversation was that he should spend time meditating on the word day and night, and that would cause him to be obedient to the word, which in turn would make him prosperous and give him good success (Joshua 1:8).
The conversation God had with Joshua revealed that it is God’s will for us to be successful. However, what does it mean to be successful? The standard of success in the world is quite different from that in the Kingdom. In the world, the amount of wealth you acquire, or how famous you are, is what makes one successful. This isn’t the same in the Kingdom. What one thinks success is will determine how he or she chooses to attain it.
In the English dictionary, success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. When we were created, God had a purpose for each of us. Only when we discover and fulfil this purpose can we be considered successful in His sight. With this known, you can have all the money and fame in this world and be considered a failure by God if you do not fulfil purpose.
John the Baptist wasn’t the richest in his time, but he was very successful in God’s sight because he fulfilled the purpose of his creation. But Herod, who was a wealthy king, was obviously a failure because he didn’t fulfil his purpose. Knowing God’s metric of success will help us evaluate our lives more accurately.
As we seek to know His purpose for our lives and make an effort in fulfilling it, we are walking on the path of success and a “well done, good and faithful servant” awaits us at the end.
Prayer Point
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help each member of the body of Christ discover and fulfil purpose.
