Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.ย  ย (Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV)

A man of God I know once shared a story of his encounter with a Taxi Driver in London. One day, he took a Taxi and began to share the Gospel with the Driver. He asked the Driver if he believes in Heaven, and he replied that he doesnโ€™t. The Driver then asked the man of God that if he believes in Heaven, why doesnโ€™t he just kill himself and leave this crooked world for Heaven? Before the man of God could respond to the question, he arrived at his destination.

The truth is that there is more to the life of a Christian than just dying and going to Heaven. Thatโ€™s why the Lord doesnโ€™t call us home immediately we give our lives to Him knowing that we could later deny Him and end up in hell. This is because there is work to be accomplished on this earth. The Lord, therefore, saved us so we can do those good works before He returns, or before He calls us home (Eph 2:10).

It is important to know that the Lord also has a burden, but His burden is lighter than ours (Matt 11:28-30). When we come to Christ, the Lord through His blood takes away our heavy burden of sin and death (Rom 3:23, Rom 6:23). The Lord doesnโ€™t force His burden on us, but He expects us to also take His burden upon us.

One of the burdens of the Lord is for all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4). He, therefore, expects us to take this burden upon us and contribute our part to ensure that souls are saved. When we do so, He will reward us immensely (Heb 6:10). Sadly, most Believers when they come to Christ would rather hold on to some of their old burdens and neglect the burden of the Lord completely.

Beloved in the Lord, when we come to Christ, He takes away our burden of sin and death and expects us to also take His burden upon us. One of the burdens of the Lord is for souls to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Letโ€™s therefore make this our burden and contribute our part towards the salvation of souls knowing that our Labor will surely not be in vain (Hebrews 6:10).

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help all Believers place all our heavy burdens upon Him and take His burden of souls upon us.

God bless you all!
