“And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S”
(Obadiah 1:21 KJV)
I have been talking about Salvation and the need for Believers to be committed to preaching the Gospel for some time now. The Lord has commanded all of us and He expects us to obey Him and make ourselves saviors of men (Matt 28:19). From my encounter with many Believers, I have realized that one of the main reasons why many don’t commit to Evangelism is because they don’t know how to go about it. I would like to therefore share some various ways we can use to evangelize.
It is very important to start with a prayer. Before you step out, you pray and commit everything into the hands of the Lord and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you. The truth is that we may be the ones speaking the word, but the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts the unbeliever and causes him/her to receive Christ (Jn 16:8). He also leads us to where we are supposed to be and give us a seasonal and accurate word which we need to say in that moment (Matt 10:19).
Also, one thing I have realized is that most people are usually hesitant to give you an audience if you approach them directly with the word. What you can do is to approach them with a request to pray for them. Usually, most of them are willing to receive a prayer. This can later open a door for the word.
When given the opportunity to share the word, one main key is to share your own story. There is a saying that everybody has a story, and everybody has a song. Our stories may be different but one common thing is that we were all living in sin and were heading towards eternal destruction until the Grace of God found us (Rom 3:23-24, Rom 6:23, Jn 3:16). I have realized that most people find this approach to be more practical and relatable than even quoting a lot of scriptures.
This is because they can see evidently what Christ can do for them when they also receive Him. I have a friend who used to be a drug addict before the Lord saved him and whenever given the opportunity, he always shares his story. Apostle Paul who used to be a persecutor of the Church until he encountered Christ, also used this approach several times (1 Tim 1:13-15). You have a story to tell. Just share it!
Beloved in the Lord, there are many different ways and approaches we can go about evangelism. Some of them are, starting with a prayer and sharing our own salvation story. However, there are many more. We just have to be sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit and the open doors of opportunities that the Lord will bring your way. Make yourself a savior of men!
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help all believers to be saviors of men and also open doors and opportunities for us to preach the Gospel.
God bless you all!
