Title:ย The Basis of the Life of Faith

In the training of a Chemical Engineer, Plant Design is one of the most important courses to pass before being awarded the Engineering Degree. In the design of a plant, one of the activities done is the energy and mass balances. In doing so, there is a need to choose a basis for the balance, which is usually one of the streams or components in the system. All calculations thereafter are done in reference to the chosen basis. Todayโs Call to Prayer is not about Plant Design, but about the life of a Christian. On what revelation of God is the life of faith based?
Jesus Christ is referred to as the author of our faith (Heb. 12:2). Before He manifested in the flesh, God took time across history to draw out (to reveal to humanity) the basis of the faith He has called us to live by. The first person He demonstrated this through was Abraham and His wife Sarah. He gave them a promise of a child but waited until it was biologically impossible for them to give birth. Figuratively speaking, He waited until their bodies were as good as dead (Heb. 11: 11-12). And when it seemed impossible to man, it was when He fulfilled His promise to them.
Another person God used to make us see the foundation, basis, on which our lives should be built was Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha. Lazarus was described as one loved by Jesus (John 11:3), despite this, when He was sick, Jesus Christ chose to not heal him then. He waited until Lazarus was dead for four days before He decided to come over to raise Him from the dead. Now, why did Jesus wait until Lazarus died? This is Jesus the healer, and Lazarus was loved by Him. Though Lazarus was not the first Jesus raised from the dead, but he was the first to have been dead for that long. The reason Jesus waited for Lazarus to die is the same reason God waited for it to become biologically impossible for Abraham and Sarah to have children before fulfilling His promise of a child to them. God wanted us to see that He is the God that gives life to the dead. This was the same reason for His death and resurrection, and the basis/foundation of our faith (1 Cor. 3:11).
Whatโs the importance of this revelation? You may ask. God did this so that we may have hope in Him that our situation can change no matter how dead it may look. Sometimes the situation may be so dark, but with His patience demonstrated through the life of Abraham, Lazarus and others in the bible, we can yet believe that He will show up to fulfill that which He has promised. Again, this revelation helps us to be obedient, no matter the danger our obedience may pose. For example, Abraham was quick to obey God when asked to sacrifice his son Isaac (Gen. 22: 1-3). Why was He able to? Because he believed that God can raise the dead (Heb. 11:9). This faith was built in Abraham because God fulfilled His promise of a Child to Him when it seemed impossible. Again, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego found themselves in situations at different times to either choose between obedience or death. Knowing that God can deliver from death (give life to the dead), they obeyed God instead of fearing the King’s command (Daniel 3 and 6). Trust has its basis on this revelation.
Furthermore, it was by this revelation, that God can give life to the dead, that mankind was delivered from the fear of death. Now we know that the dead will one day hear His voice, and those that hear will come back to life (John 5:25).ย
Not matter what God has told you, believe that He will bring it to pass, for even death cannot stop His word from being fulfilled. God bless you all.
