“…And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” Genesis 2:15 KJV
The reconciliation ministry is the restoration of man back to God’s original intent for him. To know what God’s original intent is for man, we only need to check the account of creation and the state of man before he fell. Genesis 1:26 reveals that certain functions necessitated the creation of man, dominion (rulership) over the creatures, which he was to fulfil by tending the garden and bringing leadership to the creatures within it.
Immediately man was created and blessed by God, he was placed in the garden of Eden, where he was to fulfil God’s purpose for his creation by fulfilling his assignment (Genesis 2:15). All that was needed for his sustenance was in the garden. Adam worked, not so he could eat, but to fulfil God’s purpose for him. However, that changed after he sinned. As part of his punishment, Adam worked the ground that had been cursed by God, just so he could eat (Genesis 3:17-19).
Like Adam, each one of us was created for good works (Ephesians 2:10). And as it was in the beginning, we are supposed to spend our lives discovering His will and fulfilling it, trusting that He has already provided for our sustenance. If all we are concerned about is making enough money to take care of ourselves and our family, it’s a sign that we are still living under the consequences of Adam’s sin.
Those who are walking in the blessing of God do not work for money, but do everything as though they are serving the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). They are motivated by purpose and a desire to please Him rather than gain, yet they are blessed financially.
Being motivated by purpose doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get regular jobs or be involved in financially rewarding activities, but we must be sensitive to knowing if what we are doing is His will and ensure that it doesn’t stop us from fulfilling His purpose for us.
Prayer Point
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to give us His perspective on things and cause us to walk in the fullness of the blessings that are in Him.
