Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV

Yesterday, I was meditating on the word of God as I walked. The focus of my mediation was the difference between the Oldย  and the New testaments, and the various opinions that exist. Then I wondered, what is the sum of it? can the requirements of God be summed (concluded) in just a few words? Then the words in Ecclesiastes 12:13 came to my mind.

King Solomon was one God endowed with so much wisdom. One of the things he did with the wisdom entrusted to him was that he investigated life, trying to find its meaning. Solomon was the richest king in the order of men after the first man (Adam), so we can say that his motivation was not inspired by gain, but a sincere desire to know. Now, despite he had wisdom more than all in his order, one of the tools of his search was foolishness, though not neglecting his wisdom (Eccl. 2:3). He did this to know the full extent of it. He concluded his search with this statement “Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man (Eccl. 12:13)“.

In his book titled “The Final Quest”, Rick Joyner recorded Jesus saying to him in a vision “One is in deception if he or she has left the fear and the love of God”. Invariably, any revelation that permits you to sin in the guise of grace is the voice of the enemy trying to take you out of your first estate as he did to Adam and Eve. I remember having a friend who came back from Church excited and rejoicing. I inquired about the reason for his excitement and he responded that they were told in Church that masturbation is not a sin. What a deception!

I believe that the reason God led Solomon to investigate life and it’s meaning was to spare us from wearing ourselves in trying to understand. This is affirmed by his statement โ€ฌโ€ฌ“Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body (Eccl. 12:12 NIV)”. It is better to learn by counsel than by experience, for one may never recover from the effect of experience. Fear God and leave sin. Do not allow yourself to be deceived by fine-sounding individuals whose knowledge is false.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us walk in His fear and to be obedient to His commandments. Let’s also ask Him to help us not to be deceived.
