Title: The Danger Of Familiarity
โNow He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief.โ
(Mark 6:5-6 NKJV)
ย
There was a time when Jesus returned to His hometown, Nazareth, after performing many great miracles in other towns. The people were amazed at His wisdom and mighty works, but instead of believing in Him, they began to doubt him. They said, โIs this not the carpenter, the son of Mary?โ They became too familiar with Jesus, and because of their unbelief, He could not do many mighty works there (Mark 6:5-6).
This is one of the most striking stories in the Gospels โ the Son of God, full of power and compassion, limited not by weakness, but by peopleโs unbelief. The same Jesus who healed the sick, raised the dead, and calmed the storm could not perform many miracles among His own people because they refused to believe.
The truth is that unbelief is one of the greatest enemies of faith. It closes the door to Godโs blessings and hinders His power from manifesting in our lives. Faith is the key that unlocks the supernatural. Without faith, we can attend Church, pray daily, and even serve God faithfully โ yet see little fruit (Heb 11:6).
Many believers today have become like the people of Nazareth. We have become too familiar with the things of God โ His Word, His servants, His presence โ and our reverence has faded. We hear powerful sermons but do not expect change; we pray, yet we secretly doubt if God will answer. When faith fades, miracles stop.
However, the good news is that Jesus still showed mercy. Despite their unbelief, He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. Godโs grace never runs out (Mark 6:5). Even when our faith is small, He remains faithful (Matt 17:20).
Let us guard our hearts from unbelief. Letโs believe again, trust again, and expect again. No matter how hopeless a situation seems, God is still able. He has not changed. His power is still the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8).
Beloved in the Lord, when life gets hard, when prayers seem unanswered, and when everything looks silent, remember this: It is not God who has changed โ it is often our faith that has weakened. Rise up today and say, โLord, I believe! Help my unbelief!โ and you will see His mighty hand move again in your life.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His Word today. Letโs ask the Lord to strengthen our faith and deliver us from unbelief that results from familiarity.
God bless you all.
