Title: The Dimensions of God’s Love
By: Daniel Peter
Date: 31.05.2023
… And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lordโs holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledgeโthat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17โญ-โฌ19 NIV
At the proclamation of His intention for the creation of man in Genesis 1:26, it was evident that God wants man to have His character or nature by making him in His image and likeness. The character of God is love. Though man lost this nature because of sin, Christ has redeemed that error of man by His death and resurrection.
At this new start in the new covenant, man is to participate in the process of attaining to the nature of God. Apostle Peter said “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2Peter 1:4 KJV) “. This means, the nature of the divine (which is love) was given to us by His promises (the word). As you see the word, with faith and patience, we obtain the divine nature, which is summed as love, for God is love (1 John 4:16).
Apostle Paul reinterated this truth when he wrote “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor. 3:18 KJV)“. Love is the glory of God, and the glass in which we view it is the word. With this known, let’s consider what was written in Ephesians 3:17-19, where Apostle Paul pondered how “wide, long, high, and deep” is God’s love?. By knowing this, our vessels will be expanded to be able to love like God.
The width of God’s love speaks about how many people it can accommodate, and it extends to all humanity. The length of God’s love infers how long it will last, and it extends to all eternity (He never stops loving us). God’s love for us is so high that it extends to His presence, for none condemns us before Him. Finally, The depth of God’s love speaks of how far He can go to demonstrate it? He went to the cross for us all and descended to hell fire for our sake.
The fullness of His love was expressed to us at the cross. And as we behold Him, and see it’s dimensions as expressed above, we receive grace to love like Him (we become like Him).
Prayer Point
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us to behold His glory.
