And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to eat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
Luke 24:30-31 (ASV)

Jesus Christ is the very blessing of Abraham. The moment we gave our lives to Him, He took residence in our hearts (Galatians 3:14). Therefore, every believer is blessed and is a blessing. However, what is the effect of the Blessing in the life of a believer?
Actually, the effects of the Blessing, who is Jesus, in the life of a believer are numerous. However, we can discern an important aspect of the effect of the Blessing in the life of a believer through what happened at creation and the result of the fall of Adam. Before Adam sinned, Adam saw himself through God’s light (the light of revelation) and not the light of the sun. This is why, though both Adam and Eve were naked, they were not ashamed (Genesis 2:25), for the way they perceived themselves was based on truth.
When Adam sinned, the first consequence of his ill action was that his eyes and those of his wife were opened (Genesis 3:7). Obviously, Adam wasn’t created blind. When the Bible said in Genesis 3:7 that their eyes were opened, it was revealing that they gained a new level of sight, one that is based on the natural light (the sun). The effect of this new sight was shame, guilt, and separation from God. This level of sight is the source of insecurity and depression today. People who see only using the light of the sun never reach their full potential, for they are limited by their wrong self-concept.
However, when Jesus resurrected from the dead, it was recorded how the eyes of some disciples were opened at the breaking of the bread, and they were able to recognize Him (Luke 24:31). This was the restoration of the sight that Adam and Eve lost when they ate of the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:6-7). With this sight, a believer is able to see himself or herself as God sees him or her. This sight is the product of the eyes of the Spirit, which is the eyes of understanding (Ephesians 1:18).
In conclusion, one of the effects of receiving the Blessing, Jesus Christ, is the gaining of spiritual sight.
