Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: [18] Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. ( Habakkuk 3:17-18 KJV)
I once met a young man during my university days who was on top of his class. His course of study was just introduced to the faculty and he was in the maiden batch that was admitted to study the course. With no prior body of work from his departmental lecturers to review and no past questions to solve, he was still ahead of everyone from first year till he graduated.
The first thing I noticed about him was that he was not extraordinarily brilliant but he carried the Spirit of joy. He is just always happy and you will never know if he ever gets worried. I soon began to realise as I continue to grow in God that the Holy Spirit is the facilitator of this joy and this Spirit brings with it the oil of favour. So this young man partnered with the Holy Spirit all through and according to him in our discussions, the Holy Spirit constantly revealed to him areas to note and concentrate on.
God abhors an atmosphere of sorrow and Jesus made this very clear to us when he healed the son of the widow of Nain in Luke 7:13-14. The only instruction he gave to the mother was โweep notโ even though it was impossible for her because the child was her only son and he was dead at the time but after the crying stopped, Jesus touched the young manโs coffin and brought him back to life.
Like that woman who lost her only son, you might have genuine reason to be sad but by taking heed to the word of God that commands us to rejoice in the Lord always (Phil. 4:4), we attract his presence which changes the atmosphere to that of favour. To enter into his presence, we must do so with thanksgiving and praise (Ps 100:4) and even to give unto him, we must give cheerfully and all this are embedded in this joyful Spirit.
Prayer point:
Letโs thank God for His word today. Lets also ask him to fill us with the Spirit of Joy and rejoicing so as to carry His presence and be a partaker of His oil of favour.
God bless you!
