By faith, the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.ย  ย Hebrew 11:16 KJV

Some years ago, I was given an opportunity to preach in a Church in Poland on a Sunday morning. After preaching, I was approached by a woman and she said these words to me “Let people see Jesus as He truly is, that way they will follow Him“. Her words have resounded since then. When Jesus Christ healed the blind man of Jericho (See Luke 18:35 -43), the Bible recounted that after his sight was restored, he followed Jesus (Vs 43). As a blind person, he could not follow Jesus.

When on earth, Jesus said “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Luke 5:32)”. Though God hates sin, he loves sinners, and this was the reason He sent Jesus to die for our sins (See John 3:16). But the Jesus many preachers have presented to the people is one that hates sin only, many have not shown His love for sinners to the people.

In what is now known as the Faith All of Fame (Hebrew 11: 4-38), an unlikely mention was made, Rahab, the prostitute in Jericho (vs 31). Rahab was one who believed while still in her sin, and she was used by God to save the Israelite spies, and her words encouraged the Israelite army to attack and take Jericho (See Joshua 2). She believed and was used by God while she was still a prostitute. As God accounted Abraham with righteousness while he was still uncircumcised, Rahab was also accounted righteousness because she believed (Genesis 15:6, Rom. 4:.11-12, Romans 3:21-22). Righteousness is by faith.

Though transformation follows salvation, sometimes, it’s not instant. There are Christians who believed and are saved but are still struggling with sin. If we preach salvation by works, we overturn the faith of these Rahabs (Believers who are yet to outgrow their sin), and we may lose them.

Rahab played a role in the falling of the wall of Jericho through her words and actions. A wall represents the divide that exists among humans (see Ephesians 2:14-18). If the Church should lose the Rahabs by the preaching of works instead of grace through faith, we cannot break the wall of discrimination that exists in our world today.

Don’t lose the Rahabs, preach the truth!!!

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us make people see Him as He truly is.ย
